Spotlight: Erin Mallon

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

A Little About Erin Mallon

I think it would be a fair assessment to say that Erin Mallon is one of the nicest people in the book industry and one of the busiest. Not only is she an audiobook narrator, with over 500 books on Audible, but she is also an author and a playwright…not to mention a mom. Yet she still finds time to interact with her fans on social media and answer private messages.

I remember the first message I received from Erin, she reached out to me to say she loved a story I told (in Aural Fixation) about my mum and Erin's man voice (if you know you know) and to see how I was doing. At the time, I had just adopted a six-month-old baby and taken a step back from the book community. What could have been a very isolating time was made better by a simple check-in from Erin. And that is the type of person she is. Always there with a well-timed message, a kind thought, and just generally being awesome. She is a credit to the audiobook community. Add in the mega-talent, and I think we're all in awe.

Oh, and did I forget to mention Erin recently created her own production company, Oh Yes She Did! (No, that's what it's called. Perfect, right?)

Erin's Writing

Erin is a brilliant creator. Her writing is captivating, funny, and thought-provoking. One of the things I love most about Erin's writing is how layered it is. What I mean by that is that on the surface you think you are getting one thing but when you peel those layers back you find something else, often important subjects, layered in. Her audio plays especially leave you thinking and wanting to do a relisten to pick up on those little intricacies you missed the first time round. I am so excited to see what she does next and where her writing takes her.

Speaking of Erin's writing, if you haven't experienced her written words yet, now is the perfect time as she has two series that are close to completion. Let me tell you a little about them.

First, Sharkbait is releasing this summer. It is the final book in the Natural History series. I love this series. It's brilliantly written. If you're a fan of humour, emotion, smart characters—especially the women, and low heat, this is the series for you. And if you listen to the audiobooks, you're in for a treat. Erin's male voice!

Secondly, These Walls Can Talk 3 is coming this spring. Wait! Isn't it already spring? *gasp in excitement* Fingers crossed it won't be long until this amazingness is in our ears. If you haven't listened or read the first two books in the series, I urge you to do so. I've lost count of the number of times I've listened to book one. That kitchen scene cracks me up every single time. These are truly an ode to the romance book community—especially the audiobook community—I think most of us can picture ourselves as Vera. It's brilliantly written and the casting is phenomenal. If you haven't read anything by Erin yet, I think These Walls Can Talk is the perfect starting point. They are audio plays, so only a couple hours long.

Here are some more audio plays from Erin that I highly recommend you check out

New Charity Anthology

Erin has spearheaded an amazing anthology for charity. Smartasses. She has teamed up with a bunch of incredibly smart and funny rom-com writers (see the image for a list of names) that are attending two huge book signings this year—Book Bonanza and Apollycon (more about signings and preordering the anthology below). The anthology is exclusive to Book Bonanza and Apollycon, you can preorder your copy to collect on the day of the signing, then you can head to the author tables to get it signed. Not attending either of those signings? Fear not, Erin has you covered. There is going to be a limited eBook and paperback run from mid-August to mid-October. Be on the lookout for news about that. I cannot wait to read these stories.

Where you can meet Erin this year:

Book Bonanza

July 8-9, 2022 Grapevine, TX

Apollycon

July 28-31, 2022 Washington D.C.

Authors in the Bluegrass

October 1, 2022 Lexington, KY

Love N Vegas

October 28-30, 2022 Las Vegas, NV

Erin Narrated Audiobook Recommendations

As mentioned above, Erin has over 500 audiobooks on Audible. She is prolific and a one-click narrator for a lot of listeners. Her male voice is so convincing some listeners have to check the listing to see who the male narrator is. And it is all Erin. Although Erin is good at all the things, and part of my narrator Dream Team (along with her buddy, Jason Clarke—they've done a lot of books together. Which makes me very happy!) she excels at humour and emotion. Here are just a handful of books you should check out if you haven't already. (Honestly, I'm still not over Because of Him co-narrated with JC, and I don't think I ever will be.)
